God Is… Each & Everyday (Intro Excerpt)

To follow is an excerpt of the Introduction to the devotional “God Is… Each and Everyday”

If I asked the question, “who do you think loved God the most in the bible, besides Jesus,” I believe the overwhelming response would be David. The Book of Psalm, being the evidence, bears his passionate expressions of love, devotion, dependence, and submission to a holy God. The scriptures attributed to his writing, demonstrates an earnest heart-to-heart connection between God and man.

Throughout the bible God declares how much He loves us, and how He pursues us for reciprocation of that love. He gives us advice, instruction, precepts, and examples on how we can fall in love with Him and sustain that love. Each day, we have access to an open-book (Bible) examination to measure our level of faithfulness and devotion to Him.

When we accept the love of God by yielding our hearts to Him, accepting the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, we tend to fall in love with Him so easily. Of course it is the indwelling presence of His Holy Spirit that is our divine assistance to do so. We are so in love with God that we run and tell anyone who will listen how wonderful we feel. “God is so great and I will never stop loving Him” might be your easy, daily testimony and confession.

How wonderful it is to be smitten like never before because you now know what true and eternal love feels like. You profess that you will love Him more than your physical stuff.

Some poetically declare to themselves and others, “I have put away the idols. Nothing and no one comes before the Lord my Maker. Gone so far away from me are the things that are temporal, that gathers dust and perishes so quickly. Oh how my heart beats only for Him. I will never love anyone like I do Him, my beloved. He is perfection, He is true, and there is none like Him. I think of Him moment-by-moment, day by day, week by week. My thoughts of love and devotion never fails, because He provides for me, He protects me, He comforts and loves me with an everlasting love. When His name is spoken my heart skips, and I lie awake on my bed pondering what He will do next. I can’t stop praising and worshiping my God. So great is He, my possession and obsession.”

Did you or do you ever say or think that?

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear;
but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Romans 8:15 KJV

“Lord of Hosts” – A Poem

My Everlasting Lord and Father
Preserver of all men and beast
I yield unto Your glorious power
Abiding in Your strength and peace

Most Holy, Sovereign, Righteous King
To utter Your praise is my delight
Lift up my head again to sing
My Shield, my Buckler, Path of Light

King of Glory, Counselor, Saviour
Eternal Fortress, Great Redeemer
Near to me, Alpha Omega
Joyful Refuge, You’re my Healer

Your strength perfected in my weakness
My fear is cast out by Your love
My peace is resting in Your presence
Lighting on me like a dove

Lord of Hosts, I worship You
Oh Lord of Hosts, I worship You

Prayer to Overcome Low Self-Esteem

Lord, create in me a clean heart and renew my spirit in righteousness. You formed and fashioned me according to your will and council. I am fearfully and wonderfully made and have been forgiven, made clean and reconciled to you by your grace. I am the temple of your Holy Spirit and you abide in me forever. You have chosen me to be one of your own because I was delivered from darkness into your marvelous light. Your scriptures declare that those who reverence you Lord are secure. You are a refuge for your sons and daughters and you surround me with your hedge of protection. Thank you for enabling me to walk in boldness. Your righteousness covers and keeps me from stumbling. The wicked run away when no one is chasing them but I am not afraid because you are my helper. You declare that I am above and not beneath. I am the head and not the tail and your loving kindness is my shield.

You hold me by your right hand my Lord and my God, and tell me not to fear because you are with me. I have your new mercies each day and you supply me with everything I need for life, peace and godliness. I am a branch connected to the vine. You are the vine and I am the branch connected to your life that flows through me. I am part of a chosen generation. I am a special person called a citizen of your holy nation. I am your ambassador. I am a representative in this world. I have faith, gentleness, self-control, and the fruit of the Holy Spirit dwells in me. I yield each day to my inheritance of your peace, liberty and glory. In quietness and confidence is my strength. You are for me and more than anything that can come against me.

Thank you for the indwelling presence of your Holy Spirit that helps me in any weakness. When I pray, He makes intercession to you in my behalf. I do not place my abilities above your strength because I rely on you. My confidence rests in the knowledge that you are my helper. So I have no need to live in fear of any challenge to my mind, body, soul and spirit. My self-esteem is not diminished. I have overwhelming victory in my life. That victory is through faith as I love and worship Jesus Christ. Each day I approach you with thanksgiving, praise, worship, prayers and supplications. I can ask for anything that pleases you and I know that you hear my voice. Thank you for your love, strength, peace and confidence. You show me everyday that I am your son/daughter and you are my God.

A Prayer When Feeling Insecure

Although an army might come up against me, I do not have a fearful heart. Warfare might come to the threshhold of my door but it does not overtake me. My trust and confidence is in you Lord. It is better to trust in your promises rather than putting my confidence in man.

Father you are my confidence and you hold me up when I have been attacked, overtaken, overwhelmed by people, places, events or the inexplicable. You are the Holy Lord and God who reveals the truth. My eyes are open to see the truth revealed in your scriptures. My ears are open to hear the truth of the spoken word.

All of my confidence and strength comes from being quiet and still in my mind. My confidence and strength comes from being quiet and still in my heart. My confidence and strength comes from being quiet and still in my soul. My confidence and strength comes from being quiet and still in my spirit. When I am quiet and still, I have your rest and peace. My rest and peace is in knowing what you can do.

I take comfort in knowing that you have begun a good work in my life by showing me purpose and destiny. None of my labor as your servant is cut off or in vain. I see the reward and harvest of what you have planned for my good and my future. I see the reward and harvest of what I hope for and my expected end. Your presence causes me to abide in your unfailing love. Your presence helps me to abide in your grace and favor. Your word and your presence helps me to rest, be still and know your peace. You Lord God are my strength and resting place.

The “Que Sera Sera” for Those Who Are His

The other night while watching TV, there was a commercial for a new, upcoming series about heinous acts or intentions between married couples. I don’t plan to watch it but they used a song I remember from my childhood. Although sampled and sung by someone else for the advertisement, it was Doris Day’s classic called “Que Sera Sera.” That’s French for what will be, will be. For a great amount of time in my life, I lived loosely by the premise of that song… getting what I could get, as fast as I could get it and trying to have as much fun as possible while Que Sera Sera happened.

I concede that “what will be, will be” is true because the Word does say in Romans 11:33-36 — “Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways! For who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice? And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back. For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.”

But when the day came that I had a wonderful, memorable encounter with the Word of God and His Presence, then that changed the course of my life. No longer relevant and true was another line in the song that said, “The future’s not ours to see.” That is because I became an engrafted beneficiary of the covenant promises of God found in Deuteronomy 28:1-13. We have a Father who gives bountifully, pressed down, shaken together and running over to His children.

As a child of the King, I no longer have to walk in darkness regarding my future. His Word says in Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NLT)– “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”

Even if life and its challenges confront me, I can rest in His Word that says in Romans 8:28 (NLT)–“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

When you learn and know that each day you can be kept in and by the Kingdom God with the enabling assistance of the Holy Spirit, you can “Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God.”— Proverbs 2:3-5 (NLT)

Your Que Sera Sera can and will be orchestrated by the Lord Most High with the willing and yielded participation of your mind, body, soul and spirit.

Prayer to Overcome Negativity

Lord God, I repent for thinking or saying things that oppose what your scriptures say is the truth. Your word has declared who you are and who I am when I abide in you. I belong to you and I am your son/daughter. I am filled with your Holy Spirit. You have not given me a spirit to be afraid or timid. By your spirit I am strong, loving and self-disciplined. I understand that there are natural and spiritual challenges in the world but I take heart that I have your peace. In the midst of trials, tribulation or sorrow, I have the assurance that you have already overcome what confronts me. I already have victory over any circumstance because the Holy Spirit lives in me. Your spirit is greater than any spirit that is in the world.

You lift burdens from my thoughts, motives and intentions. You break every yoke of bondage from my shoulders. No weapon turned against me will succeed. Every voice raised in accusation against me is silenced. I enjoy the benefits you have extended to me as a servant of the Lord. I am vindicated from unrighteous judgment. I am justified, found not guilty, because of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. Negative words do not proceed out of my mouth because my thoughts are renewed by your truth. I know in whom I live, move and have my very being.

I have the enabling ability to exercise authority over every challenge and challenger. My life is protected by your power. The word of God is my weapon to remove any stronghold of human reasoning that opposes God. I rest in the knowledge that you can end every mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual captivity. Your word destroys false and unrighteous arguments. Rebellious thoughts are captured and realigned to the obedience of the truth and Jesus Christ. Evil and negative thoughts are replaced by faith in you. My victory is through faith in the promises of your word and causes me to inherit your blessings. Thank you for being my God and I am your son/daughter.
