Prayer for Nations and Leaders

Psalm 2:8

Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance,

and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

Father you urge us to pray for all people. We intercede on their behalf to give thanks for them. We ask you to help all government leaders and those in authority. May they live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. Lord you are the God of our fathers and you alone are the God in heaven. The kingdoms of this earth are under your rule. You are powerful and mighty and no one can stand against you.

We are your people who are called by your name. We humble ourselves to pray and seek your face. We turn from our wicked ways so you will hear our cry in heaven. Thank you for forgiving our sins and restoring our land to righteousness. The earth is the Lords and everything in it, the world and all its people belong to you. You ask us to remember Israel and pray that they be saved and to pray for peace. You take great delight in Israel. We pray for every nation, tribe and tongue of the earth.

Your word says that when there is moral rot within a nation, its government is easily toppled. When the wicked are in power, the people groan. We pray for wise and knowledgeable leaders. When the godly are in authority there is stability and the people rejoice. Blessed and great is the nation who has a god near to them as the Lord our God. You are near us whenever we call on you. You are the Lord God both in heaven and on earth and there is none other.

We are a people of this nation who know their God, so we are strong and will resist the enemy. Set us apart as holy to you Lord, and choose us from all the nations of the earth to be your own special treasure. We are not prey for other nations and wild animals will not devour us. We live in safety and no one frightens us. Nothing will hurt or destroy us because we dwell in your holy mountain. Just as the waters fill the sea, so will the earth be filled with people who know the Lord.

We go out and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We declare and decree that our president, government leaders and those who have authority over the people of this nation will speak with divine wisdom. Our leaders follow your judgments that are fair, detesting wrongdoing. They will not violate their conscience to rely on prayer and the word of God.

Strength, courage and wisdom in decision-making are based in spiritual principles. Their conscious is rooted in the foundation of truth and justice. Lord you are pleased when words come from righteous lips, speaking honestly. Our leaders are godly men and women who live in the land and their integrity remains in it. Every wicked leader will be removed from the land and their treachery will be uprooted. Each leader is accountable to Almighty God for their positions, and for the way they handle themselves. Unfailing love and faithfulness protects our leaders and they are made secure when they demonstrate love for your people and this nation.

God Is… Each & Everyday (Intro Excerpt)

To follow is an excerpt of the Introduction to the devotional “God Is… Each and Everyday”

If I asked the question, “who do you think loved God the most in the bible, besides Jesus,” I believe the overwhelming response would be David. The Book of Psalm, being the evidence, bears his passionate expressions of love, devotion, dependence, and submission to a holy God. The scriptures attributed to his writing, demonstrates an earnest heart-to-heart connection between God and man.

Throughout the bible God declares how much He loves us, and how He pursues us for reciprocation of that love. He gives us advice, instruction, precepts, and examples on how we can fall in love with Him and sustain that love. Each day, we have access to an open-book (Bible) examination to measure our level of faithfulness and devotion to Him.

When we accept the love of God by yielding our hearts to Him, accepting the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, we tend to fall in love with Him so easily. Of course it is the indwelling presence of His Holy Spirit that is our divine assistance to do so. We are so in love with God that we run and tell anyone who will listen how wonderful we feel. “God is so great and I will never stop loving Him” might be your easy, daily testimony and confession.

How wonderful it is to be smitten like never before because you now know what true and eternal love feels like. You profess that you will love Him more than your physical stuff.

Some poetically declare to themselves and others, “I have put away the idols. Nothing and no one comes before the Lord my Maker. Gone so far away from me are the things that are temporal, that gathers dust and perishes so quickly. Oh how my heart beats only for Him. I will never love anyone like I do Him, my beloved. He is perfection, He is true, and there is none like Him. I think of Him moment-by-moment, day by day, week by week. My thoughts of love and devotion never fails, because He provides for me, He protects me, He comforts and loves me with an everlasting love. When His name is spoken my heart skips, and I lie awake on my bed pondering what He will do next. I can’t stop praising and worshiping my God. So great is He, my possession and obsession.”

Did you or do you ever say or think that?

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear;
but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Romans 8:15 KJV

Cry of the Heart and Soul — A Spiritual Anniversary

Redemption

Today is my spiritual anniversary!! Twenty-two years ago on this date, August 5th, I said YES to Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. He has shown me each and everyday that I made the right decision and He has always and will forever be my King and Most High God. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

To follow is an excerpt from my book “Pray What God Says” where I shared the testimony of my acceptance of Jesus Christ into my life. Of all the testimonies I have, this is the greatest.

*****

Years ago, before accepting Jesus Christ as Lord of my life, I considered myself a decent person. Although I acknowledged God, I did not serve Him by reading or studying the scriptures, prayer or attending church. I thought I had everything that was essential for a good and happy lifestyle. But I had issues that troubled my mind and heart as well. With God excluded from my life, unfruitful decisions made solutions to my problems elusive. I resigned to accepting and responding to lingering challenges the way I thought best.

But God heard the cry of my heart when no one else was listening, and where no one else was looking. He reconnected me with a friend in a wonderful way. My best friend Cheryl sowed 13 years of obedient and dedicated evangelistic ministry into my life. She planted the seed of the Word in every conversation and watered it by taking me to church services, conferences, her family gatherings, and most important, intercession for me in her prayer closet. I believe that when the Lord heard my cry for something new, He heard and honored the cries of Cheryl’s heart to see me saved and filled with the Holy Spirit.

Throughout those 13 years I had many opportunities to accept an altar call but I refused, holding on to the notion that eventually, I could fix me all by myself. In retrospect, arrogance and stubbornness had been a barrier to my deliverance from the problems in my life.

On August 5, 1992, Cheryl needed to pick up some documents from an evangelist in Moreno Valley so I agreed to accompany her so she could use the Express lane. As we stepped into Evangelist Prosperity’s living room, I immediately felt very hot. It was as if someone was pouring hot liquid on my head. Although the air conditioner was on in her home, I rationalized that my body was adjusting to coming in from the very warm temperature outside. So I sat quietly to cool off. After a few minutes Evangelist Prosperity glanced at me and asked if I was saved. I said, “No.” Then she asked if I wanted to accept Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour. Without hesitation I replied, “Yes. Sure why not?”

As the three of us joined hands and Evangelist Prosperity began to pray for me, I felt the heat on my head intensify to what seemed like a thick liquid pouring from my head and neck, down to my feet. My heart raced, my legs felt too limp to stand. I thought I was having a heart attack or some other physical malady. I tried to tell them to call 911 but I couldn’t speak English. With tears streaming down my face, peace and joy enveloped my very being and my lips stammered in tongues for nearly an hour.

Cheryl fell to her knees weeping and praising the Lord because she was able to witness the fruit of her labor from the prayers, and the planting and watering of the Word into my life. To some it would seem that I had a radical conversion experience. But I would never trade it for anything else because that experience has kept me believing, knowing and trusting that God is real and He loves me.

In my introduction to this book [Pray What God Says], I reflected on the peace and joy I experienced when I first heard about Jesus Christ from Aunt Bessie. But when I decided to accept Him as my Lord and Saviour in 1992, that same peace and joy embraced me but in a greater measure. I am fully persuaded that God’s plan and purpose for my life is greater than I or anyone else could have fashioned it.

Since that day, I have learned that as you commit your life to Jesus Christ and receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit, there is a divine enablement to begin, build and establish a relationship with God. It is only through a relationship with Him, through learning the scriptures and prayer, that you will be able to live a regenerated life. This is a life that can be conformed and transformed daily to the likeness of Jesus Christ.

When my heart was crying out, I was not aware that it was directed toward God. There is a cry of our heart and it is of a hungry, thirsty spirit man crying out to his Creator. Even in death, the word says that the spirit of man returns to the Creator, our God. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. –Ecclesiastes 12:7.

If we consistently allow the cry of our heart be directed toward the Lord, we are better able to submit our soul (mind, will and emotions) to His spirit. We have to allow ourselves to be subject to, in daily reliance upon, and in compliance with God and His holy scriptures. Commitment to desiring our thoughts and behavior to be in consistent alignment with the Holy Spirit will yield a lifestyle led by a spirit man that is in deference to holiness and righteousness. This I say then, walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. –Galatians 5:16.

God created and enables our hearts to cry out to Him: And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. –Galatians 4:6.

Author Interview: Christine Brooks Martin

Christian author, Christine Brooks Martin, shares about her self-publishing experience and why she writes books that focus on prayer.

WHY DID YOU SELF-PUBLISH? After I wrote my first book, “Pray What God Says,” I went scouting for publishers but at that time, the most popular genres were romance, science fiction, and horror. Even now, the popular books and bestsellers in non-fiction evolve around those genre. As a Christian writer, I didn’t fit into the popular niche at that time. I was a bit discouraged but one day a friend suggested that I publish my book through Amazon as an ebook. For economy sake I did that. Then another friend told me about Smashwords.com. The great thing about Smashwords was they convert your manuscript to about 9 different formats and distribute your book to other online book retailers. And you are not limited to the type of devices you can use to read digital books. My book sold very, very well and became a bestseller for many months through Smashwords.

I realized that there are those who like to have that paper in their hand, dog-ear pages, bookmark, and highlight what they read. Since I couldn’t publish in print without spending a lot of money, besides, I didn’t have the financial resources, I decided to self-publish my paperback through an on-demand printing company called CreateSpace. I published my first print version of the book through them. I am so excited that I can make my books available in both formats: as an ebook for the digital type people and paperback for those who like to hold, dog-ear, bookmark, and highlight. They have been bestsellers, which is even more exhilarating. I am glad that I didn’t sit back and wait until the popular genre changed to religion, I just listened to wise counsel and used the free resources that were available to help me get my books published.

WHY DOES YOUR WRITING FOCUS ON PRAYER? I believe we should pray about everything. And when we do, then we should pray what God says. When we pray, if we know the word of God, what the word has promised to us, then we can use the word of God to pray more effectually. The scriptures should be a foundation for our prayers, so prayer will be more effective and the manifestation of every promise found in the covenant word will be ours. The scripture says “We have not because we ask not and we have not because we ask amiss.” If we use the scriptures as the foundation for every facet of prayer we will not be asking amiss. Praying the scripture puts God in remembrance of His word. When we pray His word He honors His word.

WHEN AND HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN AUTHOR? I started writing during personal spiritual study, which was basically journaling. During my time of personal study I would go through the scriptures to get an understanding of what God wanted me to know about His word and the provisions that are available for my life and the different circumstances going on in my life. I started out searching scripture for different challenges that were going on in my personal life. It turned into quite a bit of material through word search and study. I found all the scriptures that related to a certain word or circumstance, like peace, by using concordances and online tools that assist in word study. So if I wanted peace in my life, I could take to heart the scriptures that applied to my need for peace. The scriptures say out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. So I would be able to know what God says about peace, embrace that truth, speak that truth over my life, then experience peace.

As an intercessor in my personal time and during church gatherings, people would ask me to pray with or for them regarding their needs or concerns. I was able to pray what the scriptures God said about their situation and the solution. I also shared my journaling information with others. I realized that what I was doing for myself was helping other people. I believe the word that tells us to give liberally. My reason for helping other people, is to use the information I gathered as a tool for myself, and allow it to became a tool for others. It helped them grow spiritually or learn how to pray if they were struggling with prayer or their relationship with God.

I found that many people are afraid to pray or they don’t pray because they don’t know what to say when they do. And many don’t know the word of God. Unfortunately, the least attended gatherings in the church is for prayer and evangelism. I believe people need to reconnect with God and communicate with Him through prayer in addition to spending time in the word of God. My books are a guidepost and a pointer, directing people into the word of God, the bible. It is the word of God that is your healing, deliverance and blessing. My books are merely pointers or guideposts to provoking you to get into the word of God for yourself. It is important to spend time to develop a personal relationship with Him through prayer. When we pray we need to know what the mind and heart of God is towards us so we can live in the kingdom estate that he has prepared and established for us. That provision comes through His scriptures and through a personal relationship with Him. It is through a relationship that you get to know, trust and believe His word.

WHAT ARE THE TAKEAWAYS FOR THE READERS OF YOUR BOOKS? The preface chapters are an introduction, addressing new believers or those who may have grown cold in their relationship with God. I hope to connect or reconnect them to the word of God, the truth about what God has promised to His people. His people are those who have declared a “YESS” to Him, meaning Yielded hearts, Embracing God’s promises and Submitting and Surrendering their will to His.

In my first book, “Pray What God Says,” the later part of the book gives a few topical scriptures as a tool to help you develop your own prayer life. If you don’t have a prayer life or don’t know what God says about your situation, or you think your prayer life is not effective, then this book is a tool to help you learn to commune with God. I wanted to help them learn and know of God as I have learned to know Him. My knowledge is increasing daily and I expect my relationship to grow daily and I don’t put a ceiling on my relationship either. There is no pinnacle to a relationship with God. Wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the word of God and relationship with Him is without measure.

My intention for writing is to get people to want to communicate with God and their spiritual Father. In the book of Revelations He said that we have been called kings and priest unto our God. And a lot of people equate Christianity with sitting in the pews or being in the pulpit. But He has called us as kings and priests. Kings are people who have power, influence, authority and dominion. They are people who can be in the marketplace living a godly lifestyle AND able to do and transact business in the marketplace with integrity and success based on the principles of God. Yes, I love the priestly side of Christianity like sitting in the pews. And I love praising God in the glorious atmosphere, but I also like being out there doing the work, serving God in a godly fashion. It is to help people build their relationship with God, reattaching them to the word of God. Because the word of God is going to tell them who they are, who they belong to, what they can have, and what they can do.

We can live in a kingdom estate because He called us kingdom people. We have to learn how to know who we are and transact business where He places us, and at the same time be able to praise and glorify Him with what we say and do. We can live in that kingdom estate, worship Him and have us be the envy of others who don’t even care about God. We can be people that others are drawn to, because God says we are a city on a hill not hidden. We have to be in a place where we are not hidden. And when we are seen we are glorifying God.

So as I am learning, I am sharing with others through my books as I go and grow. I don’t think anyone, no matter how long their relationship with God, should put a ceiling on their level of communication and relationship with God. I hope that my books will ignite others into getting into a mode of communication with God. He is a God who wants to hear from them, a God who want to speak to them, and make their life fruitful. The scriptures say “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” So I want others to get a taste of the goodness of the Lord. My books will provoke, inspire, motivate and gravitate them to the King.

The “Que Sera Sera” for Those Who Are His

The other night while watching TV, there was a commercial for a new, upcoming series about heinous acts or intentions between married couples. I don’t plan to watch it but they used a song I remember from my childhood. Although sampled and sung by someone else for the advertisement, it was Doris Day’s classic called “Que Sera Sera.” That’s French for what will be, will be. For a great amount of time in my life, I lived loosely by the premise of that song… getting what I could get, as fast as I could get it and trying to have as much fun as possible while Que Sera Sera happened.

I concede that “what will be, will be” is true because the Word does say in Romans 11:33-36 — “Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways! For who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice? And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back. For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.”

But when the day came that I had a wonderful, memorable encounter with the Word of God and His Presence, then that changed the course of my life. No longer relevant and true was another line in the song that said, “The future’s not ours to see.” That is because I became an engrafted beneficiary of the covenant promises of God found in Deuteronomy 28:1-13. We have a Father who gives bountifully, pressed down, shaken together and running over to His children.

As a child of the King, I no longer have to walk in darkness regarding my future. His Word says in Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NLT)– “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”

Even if life and its challenges confront me, I can rest in His Word that says in Romans 8:28 (NLT)–“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

When you learn and know that each day you can be kept in and by the Kingdom God with the enabling assistance of the Holy Spirit, you can “Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God.”— Proverbs 2:3-5 (NLT)

Your Que Sera Sera can and will be orchestrated by the Lord Most High with the willing and yielded participation of your mind, body, soul and spirit.

Little Book, Big Prayers: Intercession for the Body of Christ

To follow is the Introduction to the fourth Little Book, Big Prayers 4-book series scheduled for release October 27th.

And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.–Ezekiel 22:30

Each of us are called to intercession. It is not just a corporate function for the body of believers in Jesus Christ, but it is an individual function as well. Every child of God has several charges. One of them is to reconcile the lost to Jesus Christ through sharing the Good News of the Gospel and sharing our testimonies.

And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. –2 Corinthians 5:18-19

Another charge is to do the work of the Gospel:

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils:
freely ye have received, freely give.
–Matthew 10:8

Praying for our personal needs in behalf of ourselves is not intercession. But intercession is creating a link between God and mankind in behalf of others and the cares of this world.

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; –1Timothy 2:1-3

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. –James 5:16

Situations in the world and the lives of God’s people are changed through intercession. It is not just a ministry but should be the lifestyle of every believer. When we don’t make intercession a part of our prayer life, it is like a critical loss of blood to the body. The church is weakened and susceptible to attacks by the devil, like aiding and abetting the death of the church of Jesus Christ. Intercession is vital to the life and strength of the body of Christ. The power of God is demonstrated through His sons and daughters when we declare and decree the word of God. The prophetic is released through intercession.

God obligates himself to hear the voice of intercession. When you pray from your heart, He will allow you to know what His heart and mind is for the world and His people. Through intercession His will and desires are birthed out or manifested into the earth realm. God takes care of our personal concerns when we avail ourselves to cover one another in prayer. There will always be a need for you to stand in the gap, make up the hedge, repair the broken places, and to pray the kingdom alternatives of God on earth as it is in heaven.

All of the prayers in this book are scripture-based. Use them as a springboard to help you develop or enhance your personal and private communion with the Father, or ability to participate in corporate intercession. Don’t use them half-heartedly or make them a formality or ritual. The prayers are only a tool to help you learn some of what the word of God has to say about each topical item. The topical listing is a reminder of the significant areas we need to keep on our prayer lists. And remember, intercession is not just talking to God and going about your business, but it is waiting and listening to Him as well.

The cry of the poor come unto him and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.–Job 34:28

Yea, the LORD will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen: –Joel 2:19

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; –Luke 18:1

We have an assignment individually and corporately to pray for the manifestation of the glory of God to come upon the Body of Christ. That is only if we intercede on one accord, unified in the spirit. We will see our sons, daughters, and households saved and strengthened. We will see signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth. We will see the harvest of souls through evangelism and revivals. We will see the divine favor and glory of God, restoration and miracles, a holy reverence and purity in the church.

Intercession is needed for the Body of Christ until each of us, when we read: “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” (Rev. 22:12-13), then we will be able to rejoice and say without fear or hesitation, “Even so, come Lord Jesus.” (Revelations 22:20).

Little Book, Big Prayers: Career and Finances

To follow is an excerpt of the Introduction to the third “Little Book, Big Prayers” 4-book series scheduled for release October 27th.

There are many devices in a man’s heart;
nevertheless the counsel of the LORD,
that shall stand.
–Proverbs 19:21

And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,
the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and of
the fear of the LORD;
–Isaiah 11:2

God is concerned about your soul and your spirit. Did you know that He is concerned about your career and your finances as well? They are the source of your seed. Your seed is what you do with your time, how you utilize your talents, how you serve others, and what you do with your money or other valuable resources. There are challenges, trials, and tribulations that confront us everyday. But God has addressed each and everyone of them in His word. He does not intend for you to struggle continuously.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper
and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
–3John 1:2

God has a purpose and a plan for your life. That includes what you do with your life and the resources that are necessary to sustain you. Praying to receive your portion of the covenant blessings of God is available to everyone of His sons and daughters. Through the enabling assistance of the Holy Spirit, He teaches you how to be successful and shift out of the desolate places you may be in right now.

If you are in a place that lacks prayer or communion between you and God, then you are living without direction. Is the expectation of good things absent from your life? Is your everyday mundane or exasperating? Is a hopeless present and future all you see? Well, when you choose to cooperate with the plan of God by declaring the word of God over your life, over your career, over your finances, then you won’t have time to focus on past failures, current struggles, or a hopeless future.

Prayer helps you change your thinking and your value system. Your value system is what you believe about yourself and others, and what you believe about God. Prayer gives you access to kingdom blessings so you can think/believe, act and speak differently. Wouldn’t you prefer to associate with people who are walking in their God-given purpose and destiny? You too can walk in what has been established for your life–the plan and purpose of God. And it is possible for you to become a person who can encourage, inspire, motivate, and mentor others.

Keep therefore the words of this covenant,
and do them,
that ye may prosper
in all that ye do.
–Deuteronomy 29:9

Only be thou strong and very courageous,
that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law,
which Moses my servant commanded thee:
turn not from it to the right hand or to the left,
that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
–Joshua 1:7

Your words, thoughts/beliefs and actions dictate to your future. The scriptures say:

“You will eat the fruit of your lips.” — Your words.
“So as a man man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” — Your thoughts/beliefs
“You shall reap what you sow.” — Your actions.

This book will help you exercise your faith to experience the transforming power of God over your circumstances. Declare the scripture-based affirmations that God is the Lord, He is your source, and you choose His will for your life. Gain more faith in His promises of protection, provision, healing and deliverance. Through prayer you have power to change what you think, say and do in any circumstance. God wants you to experience spiritual growth and make better decisions about your career, your finances and your life.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
–Psalm 1:3
