Building Something For God

Do you believe you are here on this earth for a specific purpose? If you said yes without hesitation, then that’s great. Is there something that you know will be successful and please God, but you can’t figure out how to get it accomplished? That’s good because I’m going to send you on a treasure hunt. The mine is in the Bible… in the book of Nehemiah. I’m quite sure you know everything in the word of God is treasure.

So expect the book of Nehemiah to give you the pattern for achieving the manifestation of your purpose. There are 10 points to look for throughout the book. I am prayerful you will find the keys for successfully “Building Something For God.”

Here are your points to look for:

1. Purpose

2. Plan

3. Permission

4. Passport

5. Provision

6. People

7. Protection

8. Production

9. Presentation

10. Presence of God

Tithing Your Time

Have you ever considered tithing your time? When we hear the word tithe, we attribute it to the action of giving monetary currency. Malachi 3:10 is commonly used as the basis for adherence to the instruction from God to tithe the first fruit of our increase.

Malachi 3:10 (NLT) says, “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!”

Our obedience, out of love for Him, gives us an assurance of blessing in every area of our lives. But I pose the question to you again. Have you considered tithing your time? We have 24 hours in a day which is 1,440 minutes. A tithe of your time is 144 minutes or 2 hours and 24 minutes. You have a laundry list of your Christian doings. You thank the Lord everyday for your existence, family, job, finances, health, etc. Your life is so full of things that have to been done. You do things with and for the ministry. You read the word everyday, pray with and for others. Time is a great commodity and so much of it is consumed with your “must do” business. And when it’s all done you need to rest and sleep. Before you sink into a deep sleep you might utter “Thank you Jesus for another day.” Then off to La-La Land you go until the alarm clock rings to wake you for another day, repetitious of the days before.

Deuteronomy 12:10-11 (NLT) says, “But you will soon cross the Jordan River and live in the land the LORD your God is giving you. When he gives you rest from all your enemies and you’re living safely in the land, you must bring everything I command you—your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, your sacred offerings, and your offerings to fulfill a vow—to the designated place of worship, the place the LORD your God chooses for his name to be honored.”

You say, “I don’t have time to tithe time.” Believe it or not, you do have expendable time. How much time do you engage in social networking, watching TV, listening to your favorite music, reading books in your favorite genre, spending time with friends, chitty-chatting (maybe gossiping) with your family and friends, in addition to other leisurely indulgences?

Don’t you think you can offer up the bare minimum of your day by dedicating it to no one but God? Can you take 144 minutes of your time just for Him? It’s where you shut up and shut off EVERYTHING. Get quiet, get still and wait on Him. He is your audience. You are His audience. Even if you don’t hear anything in the spirit, give Him His time with you. And when you do, you will be amazed at how close and intimate you will get with Him. The hidden man of the heart needs the nourishment of His presence and glory. And there is a wonderful benefit of tithing time to and with God. It will be unique and wonderful.

Deuteronomy 12:28 (NLT) says, “Be careful to obey all my commands, so that all will go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and pleasing to the LORD your God.”

The Line to God is Never Busy

We have a God who is always available to commune and fellowship with us. Some people who have yet to develop this kind of relationship with Him tend to rely on others to motivate, encourage and pray for them. But He has given us the Holy Spirit to dwell in us, to lead, guide and direct us into all truth as He reveals Christ Jesus. God enables us to live the original intent that He had for His creation in the beginning.

It is amazing how modern technology has captivated us so much that many men, women and children spend the majority of our time glued to their electronic devices. They are seeking and sharing information, thoughts, desires, rants and intentions. I am glad that some look for and share the things of God.

On land-line telephones, if you want information you dial 4-1-1. This 411 is a local and long distance directory service. The operator will look up phone numbers that you request for a person or a business. Even a person search is available if you provide them with the phone number but don’t know what or who it’s for. 411 used to be free but now there is a cost for using the service.

But if you want information from the Lord, and a prophet is not around to give you a word, then God has provided His 4-1-1. His number is Deuteronomy 4:11 – “And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness. v12 And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.” He wants you to know that when you want to speak to Him and hear from Him, He is available. He wants to fellowship with you any time, everyday.

If you have a problem with your telephone you can dial 6-1-1 to report it for repair. The phone company will determine the cause and fix the problem in their office or send a repairman to the cable box or your home. But it may take several days for it to be restored.

But if you think God hasn’t seen your issue or know that you have temporal needs, then He has given you a number where you find out what is available to and for you. His number is Deuteronomy 6:11 – “And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full.” Declare it, believe and receive it. You have a promise and the benefits of being His son or daughter.

In an emergency, you would call 9-1-1 for any situation that requires immediate assistance from the police or fire department, or ambulance service. But if you have a spiritual challenge to your faith, hope and confidence that only God can rectify, He has provided us with His promises, old testament and new. His number is Deuteronomy 9:11 – “And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.” His new testament number is Hebrews 9:11 – “But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; v12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”

Give God a call day or night — His number is never busy.
